A total hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus and cervix. A total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is the removal of the uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and ovaries.
“If documentation is available to confirm that a woman has had a total hysterectomy for benign disease and has no history of a high-grade precancerous lesion (CIN grade 2 or 3) or cervical cancer, the USPSTF recommends against further screening for cervical cancer (USPSTF D recommendation).”
