Anterior Muscles of the thigh: Flexors of the Hip Joint

- Psoas Major (Proximal attachment: Sides of T12-L5; Distal Attachment: Lesser trochanter of the femur)
- Psoas Minor (Proximal attachment: Sides of T12-L1; Distal Attachment: Tendon of Psoas major which attaches to the lesser trochanter of the femur)
- Illicus
Pectineus
Sartorius
Muscles of the Posterior thigh: Extensors of the Hip, Flexors of the Knee
The hamstrings
- Biceps femoris
- Semitendinosus
- Semimembranosus
The proximal attachment of all three muscles is the ischia tuberosity.
Muscles of the Medial Thigh: Adductors of the Thigh
- Adductor Longus
- Adductor Brevis
- Adductor Magnus
- Gracilis
Muscles of the Gluteal Region: Abductors and Rotators of the Thigh
Must abductors insert on the greater trochanter of the femur (different places on it)
Muscles that abduct the thigh (and attach to the greater trochanter of the femur)
- Gluteus Medius
- Gluteus Minimus
- Piriformis
- Obturator Internus
- Superior and inferior gemelli
Tensor of fascia lata also adducts the thigh but doesn’t attach to the greater trochanter of the femur.
