The circulatory system = The cardiovascular system = The vascular system.
The circulatory system is an organ system that circulates blood and nutrients (e.g. amino acids, sugars, electrolytes, etc), O2, CO2 hormones, and blood cells to and from the cells in the body to provide nourishment and help in fighting diseases, stabilize temperature and pH, and maintain homeostasis. The circulatory system includes the lymphatic system, which circulates lymph (Wikipedia, n.d.). The key components of the circulatory system are the heart, blood, and blood vessels.
Examples of circulatory disorders include
- Myocardial Infarction / Coronary artery disease – blockages in the arteries that supply blood to the heart.
- Atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis, and arteriolosclerosis
- Stroke – blockage or bleeds in the arteries that supply blood to the brain.
- Pulmonary Embolism – a blockage in a major blood vessel in the lungs.
- Mesenteric ischemia –
- Peripheral artery disease
- Hypertension.
- Heart failure.
- Myocarditis and pericarditis
- Cardiomyopathy
- Cardiac dysrhythmias and tachycardias
- Heart valve diseases
- Acyanotic heart diseases
- Cyanotic heart diseases
- Shock or hypotension – dilation of blood vessels, decreased resistance, severe hypovolemia, severe blood loss, leaky and dilated blood vessels in septic shock, etc.
- Anemia – not enough RBCs in the blood.
- Renal artery stenosis – narrowing of the blood vessel.
- Aortic stenosis – narrowing of blood vessel
- Aortic dissection and aneurysm
- GIB
- AnĀ arteriovenous malformationĀ (AVM)
- Syncope
- Vasculitis
