TACLE is a masculine noun in French for a tackle in English. It is also another way to remember the anti-ribosomal antibiotics, i.e. antibiotics that block or tackle the bacterial ribosomes. As such, they inhibit protein synthesis.

  • Tetracyclines
  • Aminoglycosides (Streptomycin, Gentamycin (most commonly used of all aminoglycosides), tobramycin, amikacin, neomycin (too toxic it’s only used topically), netilmicin)
  • Clindamycin, Chloramphenicol
  • Linezolid
  • Erythromycin (and all the Macrolide family including its new member telithromycin)

TA binds to 30s bacterial ribosomes and CLE binds to 50s bacterial ribosomes.

The TACLE acrostic gives you the anti-ribosomal antibiotics. One can use the English spelling of TACLE which is TACKLE and have the CK represent Clindamycin and Chloramphenicol since it is the only time that the initial letter is used twice.
