Pearls
- Giving Norco to a patient is equivalent to giving Morphine. Morphine 30 mg is equivalent to Hydrocodone 30-45 mg. It’s about equianalgesic. Some physicians are scared of giving morphine to a patient and don’t realize that giving Norco is doing the same thing. For example, if you give Norco 10-325 q4-6 hrs x 6 that will equal 60mg of hydrocodone per day. You could give Morphine, long-acting, 30mg BID.

- Calcitonin-salmon is an osteoporosis medication that can also be used to treat the pain associated with acute and chronic vertebral compressions. Calcitonin is an antiresorptive agent that has been shown to decrease the risk of vertebral fractures.
