–Risk Factors for Osteoporosis and Related Fractures.
-The ten-year fracture risk determined using the FRAX tool from the WHO are:
–The 10-year probability of a hip fracture is: ___ %
–The 10-year probability of a major osteoporosis-related fracture is: ___%
-Diagnostic studies:
—BMD assessment with DXA scan shows:
–Labs: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D, calcium, creatinine, and TSH to identify secondary causes of osteoporosis.
Treatment
–Nonpharmacologic Therapy to Reduce Fractures discussed. (Indicated for all pts w/ decreased BMD or fragility fracture).
-Repeat the DEXA scan in 1 year. If osteoporosis is present, then treat with pharmacotherapy. (per PD).
–Indications for pharmacotherapy treatment of osteoporosis and osteopenia.
