Nexplanon Removal Equipment

Procedure Checklist

  1. Implant removal consent form
  2. Povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine in cup with gauze
  3. Spray-on anesthesia, OR
  4. 2 cc 1% lidocaine with 25 gauge x 0.5” or 1.5” needle (longer if reinsertion at same time) and syringe
  5. Scalpel (sterile 11 blade)
  6. Straight and curved mosquito forceps (sterile)
  7. Gauze 4” x 4” (sterile)
  8. Butterfly closure or steri-strips, and pressure bandages
  9. Normal saline
  10. Fenestrated drape
  11. Pen for marking
  12. Gloves (sterile), Size 7 (for me)
  13. Adhesive and pressure bandages (e.g. Coban self-adherent wrap)
  14. Antibiotic ointment.
