Aseptic meningitis (HSV-2)
-Benign course
-Treatment of unclear benefit, IV->PO acyclovir
-May recur (Mollaret’ssyndrome)
Encephalitis (HSV-1)
-Severe neurologic impairment
-Classical MRI changes (temporal lobes)
-Start treatment when you suspect the diagnosis
-Dx: PCR
-Treatment -IV acyclovir (10 mg/kg IV q8)
