Bipolar and related disorders.
Treatment
Mood stabilizers for maintenance therapy: lithium, valproate, lamotrigine, some atypical antipsychotics such as olanzapine, quetiapine, and risperidone. Keep patients on maintenance mood stabilizers because the rate of recurrence of mania is high when they get off them.

Atypical antipsychotics cause weight gain and adverse metabolic abnormalities. Test for DM2 yearly.
